Sanouva Hotel and Ho Chi Minh City

Ho Chi Minh or Saigon to older generation is the largest city in Vietnam and home to more than 9 million people.

My boys and I visited the city a year ago.

HCMC is different from what I expected. It’s a vibrant city with a rich history. In our 4-day stay in the city, we managed to go to the touristy area and some. But hopefully, I will be able to explore the city in depth next time I visit.

Here are some pictures from our trip. Hope you like it.

Sanouva Hotel
This was our hotel room. We stayed at Sanouva Hotel. I am a sucker for new and boutique hotel. This one was a perfect choice – location, price, cleanliness, newness. I couldn’t recommend it enough.

Our booking came with the breakfast and while it was not buffet style, it was more than enough. They had free wifi in the room which was a huge plus. Gotta love hotel with free internet, right?

Ho Chi Minh: Reunification Palace

We went to Ho Chi Minh City (locals still call it Saigon) last September 2009. Wow, it’s almost two years now but it feels like only a few months ago.

The first tourist attraction we visited was the Reunification Palace. It was just walking distance from our hotel in District 1.

Reunification Palace was formerly known as the Independence Palace. It was built in 1865 on the grounds of Norodom Palace as a residence for the French Governor General of Cochinchina. It was designed by Western-trained architect Ngo Viet Thu. The construction was undertaken by Saigon engineers and was completed in 1966.

It is huge and quite awe-inspiring. Hubby and I spent half a day here.

There were free guided tours in different languages but hubby and I chose to roam around on our own. Here are the pictures.
